What you'll do

This course spans over 6 hours and covers everything you need to know to become a fully fledged printmaker. Throughout the day you will: learn all about the different traditional lino tools and how to use them how to prime your lino participate in exercises to improve your understanding of mark making in relief printing carve your own lino block learn how to register blocks and print them precisely by hand create a series of prints from the block you carved during the session Due to the intensive nature of this course, there are only 6 places available. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided - there are shops nearby where you can purchase lunch. This course is suitable for all levels. If you have previous experience in lino printing don’t worry! Instead of spending time on the basics I can work with you to improve your mark-making, composition skills and printing/registering ability. Due to the sharp tools and length of this course, it is not suitable for children.

Debbie

I am an award-winning artist whose work can be found in international publications and collections including the Suzzallo Library USA and St George's Hospital UK. I have been trained with Kingston School of Art, Slade and the Royal Drawing School. Among other galleries, my art has been exhibited by the Royal Academy and I have run my art across the south of the UK both as a freelancer and for organisations such as Kingston Council, Mind, Heals and First Floor Space.

Where you'll be

The venue for this workshop is the Museum of Futures, a phenomenal community space funded by the Community Brain and the Mayor of London. The space is a shop converted into a multi-functional building that now hosts a whole spectrum of activities and is the hub for Surbiton's creative festivals, myths and legends; the front of the space is entirely glass giving fantastic light for making. I can recommend guests local hidden gems to visit after.
