What you'll do
There are more murals in the San Francisco Mission District than any other neighborhood in the country! Besides the classically known alleys — Clarion and Balmy — many back streets filled with lesser known but equally stunning murals and works of art await your discovery.
You (and your companion) ride comfortably and safely in the front of this custom-built rickshaw imported from Indonesia. This rickshaw, known in Indonesia as a becak, enhances the sightseeing experience by having the driver behind you, out of your line of vision.
On our ride I share stories behind the art, show you hidden treasures of the neighborhood, and point out funky cafés, bars, and restaurants not always found by tourists.
We will end your ride at La Taqueria, the best known in the Mission, for an agua fresca or a mouthwatering taco.
Exploring the murals from the comfortable front seat of a becak is a unique and delightful experience.
With your safety in mind, this Experience is conducted in the open air, and you won’t be sitting with anyone unless you invited them. The passenger area is disinfected between rides, and the canopy will be used as a screen between you and the masked driver.
Other things to note:
There’s a blanket and a seat warmer for your comfort, a sound system, and a canopy for rain, sun protection, or privacy.

As a child visiting Indonesia, I fell in love with their trishaws, known locally as becaks (pronounced "bet-shaws"). After 20 years living here and working in tech, it was time for me to get outside and introduce visitors to my neighborhood in San Francisco. This is my second season leading the street art experience. I returned to Java to built a second becak for KaiTours this past winter.
Where you'll be
Clarion Alley, Balmy Alley, Lilac Mural Project, The Women’s Building and more… Care for an ice cream or hot drink? There are several place on the way to get either.

What an amazing experience :)!
Kai was very friendly and accommodating, we ran a bit late behind schedule because of a really bad traffic jam but he was more than happy to work with us to make sure we had the full experience of the art tour. He’s very knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the art/artists. I think what we loved most besides the tour itself was that you can really tell how much he loves his community and the people in it. There were several instances where we stopped and were happily greeted by his friends/residents of the Mission. If you’re ever in the Mission part of SF and you’d like to know more about the nice people/adorable restaurants/rich culture/vibrant art scene I would HIGHLY recommend this tour. It’s worth every penny and more. Thanks Kai!
