What you'll do
We meet in Hirafu and then drive outside of the ski resort area to one of the many onsens. We'll cover some onsen history of the area and onsening etiquette. I will explain the "do's & dont's" of onsen etiquette so you can feel at ease and not be "that guy/girl." But when in doubt, just do what the locals do. Sorry, but beer in the onsen is frowned upon, but tattoos are okay though! We'll enjoy an indoor/outdoor onsen. Women go to the women side and men go to the men's side. Meet up for a post-onsen beverage usually on a tatami mat rest area at the onsen. Then return to Hirafu. I prefer to leave at 3:30 PM and return by 5:30 PM so you're back in time for dinner. Please message me if your group prefers to go at another time and perhaps I can set something up.
Hi, I'm Rob. I've been an AirBnB Superhost for 5 years and know all the best onsens in the Niseko area! There's nothing like soaking your tired bones in a steaming hot bath outdoors after a big day skiing/snowboarding/snowshoeing or being outside in the cold all day! It truly is the ultimate Japanese experience and you shouldn't leave Hokkaido without trying it! It's even more of a treat when it's snowing outside which happens almost daily in the winter here.
A post-onsen water is always best to help get you hydrated for your next day on the hill.
Rental bath towel (to be returned in onsen locker room). Usually a souvenir onsen towel ("modesty towel" you can keep) with…
Where you'll be
We'll visit an onsen outside of the Niseko ski resort where fewer tourists venture. There are a handful of places but some are closed on a specific day of the week so I will adjust as necessary.
