What you'll do

We’ll meet at a local market (depends on the season, but most of the time it will be at Mangwon Market) and we’ll look around to see what’s there with my guide. We’ll talk about the ingredients and I’ll give you information on how to cook it, the story of the ingredients, and how it’s been used and cooked in throughout history and if you can find them in your own country. Then you will get to pick some ingredients you like and we’ll head to a shared kitchen in the same market. Each team (2-4 people each) can choose 1 or 2 main ingredients and I'll choose the rest of the ingredients. I’ll think up of some simple Korean recipes based on what you’ve chosen and then we’ll cook it, eat, and talk about it together. *Drinks are not included, but you’re welcome to bring your own. *Menu for October will include seasonal root vegetable Kimbap or savory pancake and a simple sauce.

Hi everyone, I’m an independent cook who studied fine art and I taught myself to cook over the years. I work throughout Seoul doing menu consulting, catering, pop-up restaurant, seasonal food workshops, and cooking and participating in Seoul’s once a month farmers market. My parents own and operate a small organic farm outside Seoul and I always experiment and cook with their seasonal ingredients. I create new menus and Korean inspired dishes seasonally depending on ingredient availability. I care about how the food looks as much as I care about how tasty it is and how healthy it is. If you’re looking for a creative and fun Korean seasonal cooking class join me! :)

Where you'll be

We'll go to Mangwon Market. I'll tell you how to get there. These markets are where local people shop for their different needs. Unlike the supermarket or individual shops, you'll be able to see what's out there and what's in season. You'll also get to meet all the lovely—and sometimes grumpy—old sellers.
