Gastro tour with Dalmatian Peka and Zinfandel wine

Split, Croatia

Experience hosted by Tonci

  1. 10 hours

What you'll do

We meet at our office at 9.00am and enjoy a short historical walk through the Palace area, the fish market and the green vegetable market – we taste SOPARNIK (a Swiss chard filled pastry) and typical dalmatian deserts. We then head to KLIS FORTRESS to enjoy the panoramic views across the valley and Split city beneath.
Having worked up an appetite and rekindled our thirst we head to Kaštel Kambelovac and visit Perišin winery – a family winery. Try out their award winning whites, rose and the iconic red Zinfandel all accompanied by some fantastic locally prepared food. Let the charming Ivan regale you with his family tales of the past and present and how he makes his food and wine today.
We then proceed to the picturesque city of Trogir, a UNESCO protected gem featuring stunning examples of Renaissance and Gothic architecture to enjoy some well deserved free time.
Our trip then takes us to a traditional Dalmatian village in Trogir`s countryside, where our host Neno will treat us to the crown jewel of the Dalmatian cuisine, the peka meal made from veal or lamb with potatoes and vegetables. All of this accompanied with even more wine and homemade liqueurs. On our way back to Split, enjoy a spectacular panoramic road down the Kozjak mountain. We return to Split at roughly 7 PM. Remember to pack a big apetite, since you will be enjoying 3 meals and plenty of wine on this tour.

Hi, I’m Baldo, I was born and raised right within Diocletian’s palace in Split. I am very keen to show you all the many fascinating things - including its food culture - that make Split the beautiful city it is.
I’m Tonči and I’m a graduate in English and Russian teaching, but I’ve always been a big history buff ever since I was a child.
Hi! I’m Jadran. I was born in Split and have spent my whole life here. From a very early age I developed a passion for history which led me to study history at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. There, I studied and broadened my knowledge of local history. Also, I learned to teach and talk about history in a fun and informative way. Besides history, I also received a degree in philosophy which allows me to connect and understand people with different cultural backgrounds.

I don’t even know where to begin with this experience. It was just such an awesome day! My favorite part was the wine tasting, and then the dinner. So much great food and wine/liquors. Dinner was at the fathers house of the tour company manager and I couldn’t have asked for a more authentic experience with fun people. Tonci and Baldo were awesome! If I returned to this area I would most definitely do this tour all over again. :)

Such a fun way to learn about a city, by eating your way through it! Our guide, Petra was a joy to be around. She took us through the green market and unique restaurants/shops. Not only did we get to try a bunch of local bites, we learned a lot about the local culture and history walking through town. Loved this experience.
