What you'll do

We head west by private transport in the morning. We then arrive to a serene temple showcasing intricate buffalo-skin carvings; most are well over 100 years old. These carvings are of characters from the Indian epic Ramayama and were used for shadow plays in bygone days. Though most are now too fragile for live performance, being surrounded by these life-sized carvings is still an experience to remember. We will then have lunch at a famous eatery featuring hand-made egg noodles. The Thai equivalent of fresh Italian pasta! After we will take a walk through small alleys lined with traditional shops and cute homes in the old town section of Photharam. We then head to an atmospheric café for a coffee break. We finish the trip in the town of Ban Pong, where you can take a stroll along the Maeklong River on the pristine promenade, sample street snacks, or go on a scavenger hunt for a surprisingly dense collection of street art in the old town area. After, we will board a public commuter van back to Bangkok. We will disembark on the extreme west side of the city and take a 10-minute taxi ride to Bang Wa BTS skytrain station at so we can avoid the legendary traffic!

Jagadish

Bridging East and West seems to be the theme of my life. I was born in Chicago to Thai immigrants. My dad did not allow English in the house and Thai wasn’t exactly common on the streets of the Windy City. As such, clear, creative communication became a priority. I graduated from a good journalism school and then September 11 changed the course of my life. I moved to Thailand 10+ years ago and have lived all over the country from the breezy islands of the south to fast-pace Bangkok, but have always considered the Maeklong river valley, 90 minutes outside Bangkok, my true home.
