What you'll do

Welcome to my living room studio! I invite you to get to know a wonderful printing technique - the Kitchen Litho. Kitchen Litho is a flatbed printing process made with materials from the kitchen. Aluminum foil, cola, some vegetable oil and copperplate ink is what we will need. I'll show you everything step by step. The printing process is based on the repulsion of water and grease. Draw on the aluminium foil with wax crayons, ballpoint pens or permanent markers. But be careful - everything prints mirror-inverted later! And fingerprints print too! This is how your printing block is made. Subsequently, the foil with your drawing is etched with cola. Your printing block is moistened, the ink rolled up, a paper positioned and voilà - with muscle power the whole ensemble is printed on the historic Plankenhorn press. You can experiment with different papers. Each sheet is a surprise. Also the number of pieces that can be printed is uncertain. Sometimes there are only three, sometimes there are twenty. For refreshment there will be tea, coffee and a small snack available.

Katja

Hello, my name is Katja Bellenbaum. I am an artist and graphic designer. Already during my studies I was fascinated by different printing techniques. For years I have been leading courses and workshops for children, teenagers and adults in addition to my exhibition activities. Printing is a bit like magic. There is a lot of craftsmanship and well-kept secrets in it. I am always on the hunt for new experimental methods. I have a restored Plankenhorn etching press right in my living room. In a small space, I can fulfil every printing dream.
