What you'll do

I will pick you up at your accommodation in Reykjavik/ Keflavik. We will travel through highly volcanic Krysuvik area where will take trip back in time and learn about Iceland's history. We will start were lava started- underground! First step of our trip will be in a lava cave, in fact two caves where we will spend about 1,5 h. In this diverse and colorful scenery we will learn how lava tubes are created. Then we will look for signs of earthquakes by traveling along rough landscape of Kleifravatn lake- “Icelandic lake of monsters” to reach mud pools and steaming grounds of Seltún geothermal area. Next stop is Graenvatn lake with its explosive history. Our final destination will be Reyjkanes volcanic area which is located exactly between continental plates in the Mid Atlantic spreading ridge. Here we will hike for 2 hours trough lava field among strip of volcanoes where you will have chance to take a look in to 15 m depth crater and admire beautiful landscape shaped during “Reykjanes fires” eruption from XII century. Trip is not really challenging, but we will be underground so its not suited for people with claustrophobia. Remember to take proper clothes and good hiking shoes.

Our tour with JJ was fantastic! We especially loved going to the 2 caves (which we certainly would not have done on our own), and we loved the mud pool cooked eggs! It was a cold and raining day, but JJ made sure to organize the day so that we would not be wet for the whole day, just the end. We had snacks and made a lunch stop at a little cafe which had delicious and warm soups and hotdogs. Overall, this adventure was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

It is worth every cent. The tour is truly an experience and it caves are beautifully haunting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful during the physically demanding climbs.

Spectacular tour with an interesting host! I learnt so much today about both the natural sights and Iceland as a country. There was a great itinerary planned and I felt safe, engaged and excited throughout the tour. My only feedback would be to provide some additional food and drinks, like having water and sandwiches on board . Thank you again!

Had a great time with JJ, who guided us through two sets of caves safely and with a lot of hands on information. You could tell that JJ has a lot of experience and he shared insights throughout the trip. While we had less enthusiastic (for reasons external to the experience) fellow guests that booked separately, JJ did his best to deliver us a wonderful experience that was well worth it, also despite inclement weather.

Honestly the best part of our vacation. You got a different view of the country that you wouldn’t if you didn’t go on the tour! Very enjoyable, go at your own pace and our guide was very passionate and experienced!

This was easily the best thing we did on our entire trip. We did way more than we even thought and all of it was amazing. We learned more from our guide about Iceland than we could have anywhere else!
