What you'll do

Discover the history of Quebec City and Canada as you walk with us in Old Quebec Upper Town, a UNESCO world heritage site. We will go in busy streets, we will go off the beaten track and we will travel in time as far as the seventeenth century.

We will tackle major themes such as colonization, wars between empires or the Quiet Revolution and Quebec separatism. We will talk about architecture too, and food naturally. Of course you can count on us to tell you a few anecdotes that make this experience so interesting.

You'll see the highlights of the Upper Town, such as the Château Frontenac, the cathedrals, the city hall, the Price building, the Parlement and at least one fancy gate. You'll see countless of old & beautiful residential buildings and many fascinating monuments.

Thanks to this introductory guided tour, you will have a better understanding of modern Quebec society, you will know how to orient yourself in Old Quebec and you will better appreciate this magnificent city of Quebec.

We'll start nearby the Château Frontenac and we'll end in front of the Parlement.

In order to keep human interactions alive and to guide you like we guide our friends: we're very proud to NOT use headsets. :)

Passionate about history since I know how to read (very recently of course), it is always with great pleasure that I introduce Old Quebec to travelers as well as rooted locals.

I try to be informative and entertaining by using little stories to explain history.

I'm a professional guide since several years now, providing mostly private tours that I tailor live. I constantly learn thanks to conferences & books.

My colleagues working with me are as passionate as I am and are all licensed tour guides like me. Yes... it's all legit! ^^

Where you'll be

What we're going to see will depend on the itinerary of the day. But you can be sure we'll see and talk about the Château Frontenac, the cathedrals (Notre-Dame de Québec and Holy Trinity), the City Hall, the Price building, at least one fancy gate like the St. Louis Gate, the Parlement.

We'll see several monuments like the ones dedicated to Louis Hébert & Marie Rollet, Samuel de Champlain, etc.

Xavier tailored the discussion to those present, emphasizing what might best tie their backgrounds to the history of Quebec or those who founded and settled it. His insight into how the city and it's people developed and became what it is today makes the buildings and other relics he uses as props seem more relevant and alive. Worth the relatively short walk designed to ascend the hilly terrain as gradually as possible, with the return to most anywhere downhill at its conclusion.

Nice way to get an introduction to the city. It was a small group, and it was easy to get into talking. I am glad to learn in a very communicative way from a local expert. Highly recommended!! By the way, try poutine on Côte du Palais, it was REALLY good LOL

Xavier has a passion and depth of knowledge that made this tour a highlight of our visit to Quebec City. I really enjoyed meeting up at the statue my 10th great grandfather who is Louis Hebert - The first settler of Canada . (Of course he has many descendants so I’m not the first one to make such a claim! ) Xavier also gives private tours so I hope you come back with family members and take that they will do research On your family tree and ancestors for you before you come for the tour. Just search the other website: “Tours Accolade” From the other (T.A.) website : Explore the old historic neighbourhoods of Quebec City and Lévis with Tours Accolade and our professional guides. You’ll have a better understanding of local history and truly appreciate local architecture, culture and lifestyle. This is an excellent choice go for it !
