I founded Footsteps in Northumberland in 2011 and since then, I have led hundreds of guided walks for hundreds of visitors. What we’ll do

Imagine walking across the sea on the traditional Pilgrim’s route to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the Jewel of the Northumberland Coast. Imagine walking barefoot, the sand between your toes, the only sound is the splish-splash of your feet in the water and the mournful ‘singing’ of the hundreds of grey seals ‘hauled’ out on the sandbars in the bay. Because of the tides, the walk is carefully planned to ensure that we make the crossing and the return journey well within the safe crossing times and within a significant margin of safety.

Equipment
Safety equipment, spare hats and gloves to share if needed.

What to bring

A hand towel to dry your feet with if you walk barefoot. If you're not walking barefoot, please consider wearing wellies. Walking boots are not suitable because they will get wet
A bottle of water and some snacks
A warm jacket, hat and gloves, camera and a sense of adventure

Where you'll be

The Pilgrim's Way to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, a path, some 3-miles (5 kilometres) in distance across the sea and in use for 1,500 years The Holy Island of Lindisfarne and some of the features, views and significant places on the Island The Ship Inn, a traditional English pub for refreshments The return journey back across the Pilgrim's Way to the mainland The total distance there and back is 7-miles, including walking on the Island
