What you'll do

We’ll start by meeting at JR Chihaya Station. From there I will take you on a short, plesant drive (about 10 minutes) up to the temple. At the temple, the monk will welcome us by chanting a peaceful sutra, and afterwards, discuss the basics of Zen in a friendly and interesting way. Then we shall meditate together in silence. With eyes closed, we breathe and look inward. This is a special experience, and one which will leave you feeling refreshed, revitalised and happier. After meditation, the monk will discuss how Zen meditation can be used to improve your life. Tea and sweets will then be served, and you can sit with the monk and ask any questions you may have. Finally, I will drop you back at JR Chihaya Station.

Mari

I will take you to a special temple which is hard to access without a guide. I have been an interpreter for the monk and learning Zen for over 3 years. I used to live in the UK, and have since served as an interpreter on a round-the-world cruise, and worked professionally as a tour guide all over Japan. Mr Shimizu has been a Buddhist monk for 26 years and has instructed people from all over the world in the ways of Zen and meditation. His aim is to help people lead happier, more peaceful lives. ☆ Mr. Sakazaki, another monk, sometimes leads the session.

Where you'll be

Outside the temple, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Hakata Bay while feeling the sea breeze. You will also find a little Zen garden and a small Shinto shrine to our local god. The temple gives a warm welcome to anyone who visits. *The temple is under construction to fix the roof until the end of April 2019.
