What you'll do
There is something special about painting a landscape outdoors that makes you feel more alive, more focussed, more willing to take risks. It is a deeply rewarding activity, whether you have tons of experience or none at all. The spectacular hilltop viewpoint on our farm provides the perfect vantage point from which to paint, and all your art materials will be supplied... it is as easy as that! When painting in oils, simplicity is key: my lightweight kit includes a state-of-the-art easel and (genius) minimalist colour palette, both of which make putting brush to canvas a treat. To that end, we meet on the farm in front of our farmhouse, and once I have driven you up the hill to our secret viewpoint, we set up our easels. I begin with a detailed demonstration of the three steps of an oil painting, after which you will paint your own with confidence, punctuated by a tea break midway. Once the paintings are completed, we return to the base of the hill with our little masterpieces.
I am a Garden Route based artist with experience in a variety of media and subjects, but closest to my heart is the challenge and satisfaction of working directly from life. As I live on the most scenic of farms, painting outdoors is a natural choice to make and one I am excited to share with you! Over the years I have given painting and drawing demonstrations to local art societies and art groups in Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Sedgefield, taught adults a comprehensive drawing course, and have exhibited in solo and group exhibitions. I am raring to give you all the tips you need to complete a successful artwork out in the fresh air.
