What you'll do

Two hour walking tour around the monuments and memorials near the Tidal Basin and the west half of the National Mall. Slightly less than 3 mile (5 km) of walking.

We'll meet at the Washington Monument Lodge (aka the Washington Monument visitor's center). As our group assembles, I'll introduce myself and get to know you! I'll try to get a sense as to what you, your friends, your children, your family are most interested in.

Then the tour begins. Over the course of the next two hours, I'll walk our group to the Washington Monument, down to the Tidal Basin (briefly passing the Holocaust Museum and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing), to the Jefferson Memorial, the lesser-known George Mason Memorial, through the FDR Memorial, though the Martin Luther King Memorial, to the lesser known DC [World War I] War Memorial, to the WWII Memorial, along the Reflecting Pool, and then ending at the Lincoln Memorial!

Depending on your interest and our timing, we might also add the Korean War Veterans Memorial and/or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Along the way and to each location, I'll explain the history and architecture of each stop, building in time for photos and questions!

My 9-to-5 is with a nonprofit, but I've been moonlighting as a tour guide since 2013! I've given tours on double-decker buses, bikes, and Segways with three different companies in both DC and in Philadelphia. While I've worked with some great companies, I've decided to lead my own tours - designing the tour around the monuments, neighborhoods, and stories I love the most.

For my work and studies, I've lived abroad in Jordan and India - each time I was abroad, I'd find myself describing how truly wonderful a city DC is. So whether you're visiting from Mumbai or Maryland, welcome!!!

Where you'll be

As noted above, we're gonna hit most of the big memorials in DC. We'll also be hitting a number of smaller memorials that even if you've lived in DC, you've either never been to or know little about.

For those not familiar with DC, I want make clear we will NOT be going to: the White House, the Capitol Building, the Supreme Court, nor inside any Smithsonian. Although I'm happy to give suggestions on visiting each!
