What you'll do
You’ll head out to pasture at 6 AM to help bring the cows in for morning milking while covering the basics of pasture management/rotational grazing/fencing, forage identification, the "art" of cow movement, and natural pest management at the same time. Next, into the dairy barn where you’ll get hands on experience assisting in milk house set up, learning about sanitary milking best practices, putting together milking machines, etc. The fun begins next when you’ll take part in the actual milking process. We have 30 Jersey cows whose milk we sell to neighboring Consider Bardwell Farm (it's made into their award winning cheese!) as well as raw on the farm so you’ll learn the importance of cleanliness, cow health, safe milking/milk handling practices, from udder prep to bottling/labeling milk in accordance with state raw milk regulations. You’ll take part in feeding the cows/calves and then helping with post milking cleanup. You’ll continue learning about pasture management as we discuss where/why the cows’ next pasture will be while setting up the movable fencing, and getting the ladies back out to graze for the day. Your experience will end with a farm fresh breakfast in our kitchen

Where you'll be
You’ll experience a summer sunrise with beautiful and gentle animals in a picturesque pasture in Vermont’s southern Champlain Valley. Our early 19th century dairy barn is the setting for the second phase of your experience and a different pasture in the adjoining meadows will be where you spend the last third of your morning. A homemade breakfast of locally sourced and home grown food will follow in our farm house kitchen.
