What you'll do

On this experience created together with the New York Times Journeys, we will take you around the bohemian Jewish quarter and finish in a fancy bar in downtown. We will taste a few Hungarian specialities, visit cool local designers, and cruise along the known and lesser-known streets of the 7th and 6th district of Budapest. We will find out why the Mangalica hog is so special and try products made from its prized meat at a local Market Hall.
Hungary is well known for its high-quality wine but a new exciting craft beer scene is arising as well, so together we will learn about this exciting scene and sample a few of our favourite brews. We will carry on cruising the streets through the eyes of revered photographers like Robert Capa and Andre Kertesz, we stop by a small photo shop where you can make your own Polaroid photo and take it home as a memory from Budapest. We will have a sneak peek into a sustainable eco-design shop before we hop on the oldest underground in Europe to get to a fancier part of town.
We will finish with a cocktail in hand and enjoy a captivating bird’s-eye view of one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.
Other things to note
Let's respect each other time ! Please be at the meeting point 15 minutes prior to the time of departure. So we can start the tour on time :) THANK YOU

My name is Gergő, I am a tour guide with a degree in cultural studies. I am very interested in modern days politics, culture, art and the changes going on in the city. On this experience, we will see places that tell us about these changes. From an old artist club to a modern rooftop bar we can talk about past regimes and how the city and its' people are coping with all of that. This tour and the places we visit give me a great opportunity to take you through from the past to present times and share my passion with you.
I'm Livi, and I love experiencing different cultures and travelling the world but love being home too. After coming home I would like to share my own culture with you.

Wir waren eine kleine Gruppe, zu fünft, und haben so einen unvergesslichen und persönlichen Einblick erhalten. Wird uns noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben, eines unserer Highlights in Budapest!

Gergo is the perfect guide for this tour. My daughter, son and myself took this tour last Saturday 28th September. He really knows his city and his enthusiasm is evident in the care and detail he puts in to the tour. We would never have been able to find and enjoy the places that he showed us. The tastings were lovely too. I would not hesitate to recommend highly.

If you only have a few days in Budapest, make sure you don´t miss out on this experience. What I enjoyed the most, was the way I felt like I stepped back in time and was part of something very special and unique. Like what I got to encounter was the secrets from "behind the scenes". Reka was my tour guide, and we had great chemistry. Her knowledge, passion and people skills added so much value to this tour. Too bad the hours went so fast. I´ll sign up for this experience again for my next trip. Thank you!
