What you'll do

Are you a foodie, wine, beer or cider lover? Or a mead newbie? Looking for a great gift? ☺ Mead can be sweet, dry, still, carbonated, or sparkling like Champaign. But just what is mead? The answer lies within the humble honeybee—as her sweet “honey wine” has been crafted for nearly 10,000 years. As a beekeeper, I’ll let you in on her secret! First, we’ll explore the art of mead making and the various tools. Enjoy a local honey tasting paired with seasonal fruit; exploring which honey blends best with your favorite fruit(s). Taste a variety of dry to sweet meads, determining what type you’d like your custom mead to be. We’ll discuss bees, while you press your finger into some honeycomb and taste the freshest honey you've ever had... yum! Now it’s time for aprons and gloves… to make your first mead! ☺ We’ll go step-by-step, and you’ll learn everything you need to know to make great tasting mead. Finally, we’ll gather in our pollinator-friendly garden (weather permitting during March-Oct) to observe “the girls” in the PurrFect Honey Apiary. Great chance to use slow-mo video to capture their funny home arrivals. You’ll take home your own custom mead and kit (with glass carboy, lid, bung, airlock and handout). Bring a friend, your spouse, or a date! Guaranteed to be fun, educational, and with lots of great photo opps to boot. Come learn what all the buzz is about.

Where you'll be

We'll begin by making mead inside in a private beekeeper's kitchen. We'll finish by visiting The PurrFect Honey Apiary (weather permitting during March-Oct), which is located in a pollinator-friendly garden, nestled in the hub of Silicon Valley. Our tranquil backyard is an ideal launch pad for our bees to get out and pollinate our surrounding parks and gardens. Our fun hives include: Buzzingham Palace, The Sweet Honey B&B, Bumble & Bumble, etc).
