What you'll do

Meeting just before nightfall, we'll gather together in the car park of Stover Country Park to learn about the extraordinary history of this Local Nature Reserve before heading off to explore. Covering 114 acres and with a wide variety of habitats to explore including woodland, heathland and large lake, this site boasts a substantial variety of wildlife including numerous species of bats, birds and nationally rare dragonflies. Our aim will be to track down some of the parks elusive nocturnal species including Greater and Lesser Horseshoe bats, Tawny Owls and the very special Nightjar. We'll use the latest in bat detector technology as well as a few other 'novel' techniques to find our targets whilst also enjoying whatever nature throws our way; I've been known to find the odd Glow Worm! The walk covers ~1.5 miles and will be taken at a slow and pleasant wildlife watching pace.

Matt

Born and raised in Torbay, Devon, I have over two decade’s worth of experience exploring this magical area I call home and discovering its wildlife secrets. A master of ecology from the University of Reading, I have 8 years experience guiding and teaching people about wildlife. I love to share my knowledge in the hope of infecting others with my enthusiasm. In a world so disconnected from nature, I aspire to help people rediscover the natural world and promote the importance of its conservation.
