What you'll do

We will visit the May 18th memorial hall and I will give an interpretive tour of the memorial hall, while answering your questions and explaining how the past connects to modern day Korean society and politics. We would also visit the nearby sacred cemetery to see the monuments of people who sacrificed their lives against the dictatorship. We will also discuss current Korean news and you’ll come away with a more nuanced understanding of Korean politics.

Learn more about Seohyun

Seohyun

Hello everyone! My name is Seohyun. I was born and raised in Gwangju, the heart of the Korean democratic movement. I spent my life growing up here and have a lot of great insights to the culture and history of Gwangju! On May 18th, 1980, the dictator of Korea at the time ordered an attack on democratic student protestors that turned into a massacre. Out of this chaos, South Korea was inspired to move towards a democratic government. Join to learn more and together we’ll explore the Gwangju May 18th memorial hall! #My brother Geon-il, might offer you the tour when I am not available. He is also expert about Gwangju Uprising as the local of Gwangju. Currently he is studying the Economics in the University.
