What you'll do

Before the riders arrive, perhaps the most important thing is already done: training the horses into well-behaved, courageous, save and confident companions. That is the start of a successful horseback ride. Then we try to estimate which horse best suits which rider and for those without any experience we briefly explain some basic principles. Out of respect for the horses the maximum weight of the rider is 95 kg / 210 pounds, according to the Italian road code the minimum age is 14 years We go into nature as quickly as possible, we cross the olive grove and the vineyard and then follow narrow roads through the fields with grain or sunflowers, depending on the season. We ride in a hilly region of Tuscany and that makes that we have all the time amazing views. We take our time and we make a stop every time someone is asking for that. These short breaks give the guide the opportunity to tell stories about the region and the culture and rich history. !!! Giving an exact timetable is not possible; normally we walk this trail three hours, stops included 3,5 hours.

Karel Martha J

After years of working as a photojournalist in Belgium, I moved 8 years ago to Buonconvento, Tuscany, Italy. Now I take people with me on a horseback to show them one of the most beautiful regions of Tuscany. My aim is more then just doing horseback riding. In 5 languages (English, Français, Nederlands, italiano, Deutsch) I give during the trail information about the rich culture and history of the region. My way of taking people on a trail fits in the idea of slow tourism: respect for environment and nature, the horses and the locals. During the trails, time is on our side!

About the organisation

A.S.D. Il Missouri Equitazione

Il Missouri is a non-profit organization with a focus on slow tourism on a horseback. Exploring the region, riding in places where people otherwise never would come, showing typical aspects of central Tuscany,....that is the intention of the association. During the trails we try to improve the quality of the horse riding, and for those unfamiliar with western riding, also get to know that.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to A.S.D. Il Missouri Equitazione.

Where you'll be

We ride the horses through the valley of the rivers Ombrone and Arbia, and through the hills that surround the valleys. We come close to one of the most famous and amazing landscapes of this region: the Crete Senesi. This means that we move in the triangle Buonconvento, Siena, Asciano.
