What you'll do

The family Van Gogh lived in Etten for 7 years. During this period Vincent’s father was a preacher of the protestant church in Etten. During these 7 years Vincent often came home for a short period. From April until Christmas 1881 Vincent lived at the vicarage in Etten. Making drawings every day from early in the morning until late at night.

Etten-Leur is the place where Vincent was registered as an artist for the first time. Here he had his first own work and studyroom. Etten was a turning point in Van Gogh’s life! We walk and we marvel. Vincent loved Etten. In 1888, when he lived in Arles (France) he made a beautiful painting of the parsonage garden.

Our walk starts with a visit to the Van Gogh Church. We get a good impression of Vincent’s models. We pay attention to his unrequited love for his cousin Kee Vos-Stricker. What a story is that!

We continue with a walk around the church. We see Vincent's first drawings on a huge wall with his world famous self-portrait. An ideal spot to make a selfie! We walk along places mentioned by Vincent in his letters and visit locations of which he made drawings. We pay also a visit to the Van Gogh Style Room “Boerenkamer".

Hi, I'm Luci. I manage the bookings for Cor Kerstens and Vincent Martens, our Airbnb guides. Two experts who know everything about Van Gogh, especially his early years. They both are fascinated by his drawings, paintings and letters. The famous letters ignited their still ongoing passion for Van Gogh. Cor was born in Etten, in the same house as Piet Kaufmann, one of Vincent van Gogh's models. He organizes walks and gives lectures. With the same first name, and similar to Vincent van Gogh, Vincent Martens was born and raised in Zundert. Recently he gained a Master’s degree in Imagineering!
