About your host

I've spent 25 years as a teacher, trainer and tour guide, and I love stupid questions, difficult questions, all the weird quirky things that other people don't think about. What we’ll do

Forget Guinness and leprechauns! The fascinating truth is that from the stone age, Celts, and St Patrick, to a nation where today 1 in 6 people are immigrants, Ireland has been a dynamic and cosmopolitan destination for thousands of years. Take a riverside stroll from the city centre to Dublin's old docks (2 miles) while I share some surprising facts about why everyone has wanted to come here…

What else you should know

It rains a lot in Ireland, so I won't cancel the tour unless it's really bad. Be prepared to get a bit damp, but we will shelter from passing showers.

What to bring

Shoes - we will be walking about two miles (3.5km) at a leisurely pace
Outdoor clothing - Ireland is a lovely country, but unfortunately the roof blew off during storms last year, so there's a good chance it will be cold and rainy.
Travel card/cash - We will finish close to public transport, including tram and hop on/off bus. I can also call a taxi for you.
Snacks/drinks are not necessary as we will pass plenty of shops along the way

Where you'll be

Daniel O'Connell monument, O'Connell St. Immigration Service offices (and mural) James Connolly Memorial Old Custom House Great Famine Memorial (statues) Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship (emigrant ship, replica) (Optional: tall ship tour with me) Samuel Beckett Bridge Grand Canal Square Diving Bell exhibit Docklands - traditional homes vs new developments MV Cill Airne restaurant
