What you'll do

We'll meet in the centre of Edinburgh at the Grassmarket where we'll say a quick hello and jump right in. I'll explain a little about the settings on your camera so that you'll hit the ground running and get some great photographs of this amazing city. From the Grassmarket we'll move on to get photographs of the incredible Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile Cockburn Street. The tour is tailored to your ability level and is aimed at beginners wishing to use manual mode. We will cover white balance, exposure, composition etc and I'll aim to get you comfortable in taking your photography to the next level. You'll get a good walk, but most importantly some great photographs and the skills to start developing your own style.

Social Distancing will be adhered to as per Scottish Government guidelines to keep us all safe

If you want photographs of yourself, please book my other tour "Edinburgh Private Photoshoot Experience"

I'm a professional photographer with years of experience in front of, and behind the camera. Passionate about both photography and sharing Edinburgh and it's hidden gems. Having trained and worked professionally in film and television first as an actor and later as a camera operator, I found a love for stills photography and love to pass it on!

For a unique take on the city, come on an adventure and I will show you the best viewpoints in the city so that we can experience things from a locals point of view and come away with the best images and a better understanding of how to use your camera. Smart phones welcome too! Please note cameras are not provided.

I booked a session with Simon and I was totally blown away. His jovial aura was so contagious and he’s nice to be around with. This actually was the highlight of my trip to the Edinburgh. He was so attentive, easy and friendly and a real “zero” at capturing candid shots which I love. He’s familiar with all the sites and venues, of which he utilized them as added ambience and personal projections. I was simply at ease with him. He was wonderful photographer and a good conversationalist. He was very knowledgeable about his city in Edinburgh and is clearly passionate not just about photography, but also about people. His great professional services added “high-value” to his work while taking all my photo shots. He was the best I’ve ever met here !!!!!

Simon was really welcoming, patient and helpfully broke down explanations of different concepts. He was clearly an expert in his field and was happy to teach us about different techniques. We left having learned a lot about how to get the best out of our shots as well as a bit of history of Edinburgh and his own personal stories. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed the tour but it would have been good to have had some versatility on the route eg indoor shots in St Giles, more venues on way to Calton Hill. Maybe some unusual location shots, which you already knew worked. We also thought that you could impart more info about composition as we both found this really useful. But overall your patience and manner was just lovely which made for a really enjoyable experience. Thank you from us both.
