What you'll do
I will drive you from Buchlyvie or Balfron 8 miles to a little known forest track near the pretty village of Drymen. From there we will embark on the first part of a 6 mile trek to the top of Conic Hill 361m (which is part of the famous West Highland Way) This is by far the best and quietest route, most of it being a gentle walk around the back of the hill before the steeper ascent to the top, taking in the stunning views of Loch Lomond and the islands on it. A pack lunch provided can be taken on top We will then go back down a shorter path on the other side to the beautiful village of Balmaha. Walking together for the first half I will share stories and legends of the area including that of Rob Roy Macgregor, our local hero! I will return to the vehicle to meet you at Balmaha where you will have time for a coffee or drink at the famous Oak Tree Inn or try their award winning ice cream! Weather permitting we will then be taken, by arrangement in a wee boat out to the island of Inch Cailloch, one of the ones we looked down on, to explore the beautiful nature and history of the ancient settlement. Or we can spend an hour on one of the lovely beaches of the loch at Mallarochy bay before our return.
I am Alison a semi retired Potter and Artist (art related experiences in the pipeline) My work has always been inspired by the stunning land and seascapes in our beautiful country. I have sought to recreate natures bounty in various mediums, it starts with wonderful walks or cycles into the heart of the Trossachs or around the many lochs in the area with my dog Mattie.. who will accompany us on our trek! I am lucky enough to live and host in the area for some 30 years amid such stunning natural beauty which I love to share with my guests along with a bit of history and local folklore/stories
I will provide a packed lunch and drinks for the hike. Please let me know about any dietary needs or restrictions

Where you'll be
A gentle approach to Conic Hill, a small mountain, including part of the West Highland way with the massive, largest in the UK, Loch Lomond in your sights most of the way. The final ascent is quite steep as is the descent on the other side to Balmaha. The boat yard in Balmaha offers regular short trips to the nearby island; Inch Cailloch. Walk up to the highest point for another perspective of the Trossachs and visit the old graveyard c1768
