What you'll do

After being welcomed, introductions and a hot (or cold) cuppa & a biscuit I will introduce you to a little batik history, the tools of the craft and show you how to apply hot liquid wax to a stretched cotton panel and discuss techniques. I will advise you on how to apply your letter design and show you how to add your foundation layer of colour. You will get the opportunity to practice on a test piece before doing it for real. All of this will usually take us up to about lunch time when we can then stop and eat whilst the work fully dries and enjoy each others company. After lunch time (and usually some very nice yummy treats!) we begin with another demonstration on how to layer up the colours and build your design with colour & pattern. You will repeat the process until you are happy with the result or for as long as time permits building multiple layers of contrasting colour and pattern into your unique piece of home decor. Once your design is complete I will show you how to remove the wax from the cotton panel before you choose a picture frame in which to showcase your finished piece. Once framed your batik will be ready for you to take home as a souvenir and to show off!
