What you'll do

I will aim to get you producing a painting in a day. We will begin in the morning at my studio with coffee and homemade cake. You will have a go with materials for working outside in the landscape. I will help you to find out what different effects you can achieve with watercolour pencils and watercolour paints and you'll work in a sketchbook for this. Then a 20 minute walk into the heart of Ditchling village where you will draw in your sketchbook and photograph the view, gathering as much visual information to paint from later. We will take a lunch break at this point in the day, the village has 2 excellent pubs a tearooms and a cafe all serving lunches. If the weather is too bad to walk into the village and draw, the plan will be to paint my garden under the verranda outside the studio, my garden has a variety of flowers and plants that are great subjects and lovely to paint. You will return to my studio for an afternoon of producing your painting, from the sketches and photos. You will use acrylic paints which dry quickly on an A3 size ply board. I will demonstrate painting techniques and help you with mixing colours and composition.
