What you'll do

I will provide a short introduction to the art and craft of working with stained glass. You will learn to cut glass and solder lead or copper foil. Safety in handling and working with glass is emphasized. Everyone can choose a design, pick out glass, and construct a window. All tools and materials are included. I will also demonstrate methods for restoring antique stained-glass windows, building lamps using copper foil, and designing windows using Glass Eye Software. Work will be done in a well-lit 18 x 24 foot studio (with rest room) on our property where we are Airbnb hosts. Check out Glimmer Glass Cottage on Deer Isle. If you stay with us, you will have virtually unlimited access to the glass shop. Please contact me if you would like a date that is not open. It is possible that I may be able to accommodate your request.

Andrew

I have worked on stained glass for over 25 years. I design and build new windows, repair and restore antique windows and lamps, and teach classes. I learned my craft by studying on my own, taking classes in Mississippi, Nevada, Oregon, and Maine. One of the windows I designed and built was pictured in the May 2007 issue of Maine Home Design.

What's included

Food
Age appropriate beverages and snacks (cookies, cheese, fruit) under the grape arbor, weather permitting.

Where you'll be

Our studio is located on Deer Isle, ME (it is an island, but accessible by bridge). We are in a spruce forest, in walking distance of the ocean, and in easy driving distance to hiking trails, freshwater and ocean beaches, a fishing village (Stonington), and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (https://www.haystack-mtn.org/)

Things to keep in mind

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase.

Communication policy

Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside the Airbnb website or app.

Guest requirements

Up to 3 guests aged 18 and up can attend.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

More tips

Working with stained glass is a skill that virtually everyone can learn. Most of my students are beginners and have never worked with this medium. This is perfectly safe, although occasionally people experience minor cuts.
