What you'll do

We'll start by rolling up our sleeves and picking out some fresh pine for your triangle shelf. We'll learn how to safely use a variety of power tools, then break out the elbow grease to hand-sand the shelves and do some custom-engraving. A cold, locally-brewed Anchor Steam beer is the perfect partner for putting on the final touches. You'll leave with a lovingly-crafted shelf that will give you permanent bragging rights. Experience for yourself what makes this place special: creative people in creative spaces adding small pieces of beauty to the world.

I started crafting from wood as a kid and have been embedded in San Francisco's creative maker community for more than 15 years. Nine years ago I founded Wood Thumb, a wood shop where we've designed and sold hundreds of thousands of high-quality wood products across the globe. Our clients have included big-name retailers such as Anthropologie, Williams Sonoma and Urban Outfitters. But my true passion is not production — it's sharing the gift of woodworking with people who don't have the knowledge, tools or belief in themselves to build something with their hands.

This was a fun experience. The participants were of fall different levels, from no experience at all to having made several pieces of furniture in the past, but Christopher explained this class in a way that worked for us all. He was wonderful at coaching and very friendly. I met many new friends here and had a great time.

I really enjoyed myself on this experience -- Christopher is knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming, and does a great job teaching something that seems intimidating. I loved the space and entire process, and I'm so excited to decorate my triangle shelf (and know that I MADE THAT). He's already got me thinking about what else I can make!

If you're like me you probably think you can't wood work but guess what?!? Anyone can do it because Chris is so patient and knowledgeable about the art of woodworking. I was super impressed at his ability to instruct, engage and lead beginners to an amazing final product all built with my own two hands. Thanks Chris! Highly recommend.
