What you'll do

Join me for a walk through the dunes, or any where you prefer as we identify and sample some of the overlooked, nutritious and often delicious species growing there. Did u know you can actually eat sea buck thorns and what the benefits are, or how Dutch seaweed taste like or that you can make capers out of flower buds? I am excited to offer another wild edible plant walk in Den Haag. The walk is often not more then 1km. Make sure you take a bottle of water with you and be prepared to taste some greens you have never tasted before. We gather at an agreed point in or around The Hague. I will tell you about the foraging rules in Holland and the do's and the don'ts. Explain what you can eat raw or cooked, which part of the plants is eaten when and of course let you, see, smell, feel and taste. All our sensory organs will be tickled and extra spoiled by some bites I made with the plants. The walk will not be a big distance as the goodies grow in abundance. The walk is often not more then 1km. Make sure you take a bottle of water with you and be prepared to taste some greens you have never tasted before.

When I was a kid, I used to go foraging with my family. Collecting nuts and berries so my mom could make the most delicious jams. It was a nice combination between playing, foraging and learning at the same time. In my training as a Shiatsu therapist, I came into contact with Chinese medicinal plants. That got my interest in medicinal, but also in wild edible plants again. A few years ago I followed a course in Herboriste and I also did several courses in Permaculture. Because of this I have learned even more. In the last 5 years I organized plant walks and plantwalk dinners by appointment.

Where you'll be

I have 2 favorite spots to walk. One is in the dunes and goes direction the see. Mostly locals come there to sun bade, so if it is a good day, take your towel with you for a fresh dive in the sea as well. (and dive up some seaweed) The other place is at the end of tram number 9, De Dreef. It is a peaceful park where you can see Scottish Highlanders and also has a little pool to swim. Again a spot that not a lot of tourist and even locals know.
