What you'll do
Length of tour: 3.5 hours Time: 8:30AM to 12PM All food and drinks included. Chinatown and Gastown are home to many trendy restaurants, art galleries and professional firms. Yet, some parts of these neighbourhoods are also home to low income and some of the most marginalized residents of Vancouver. This paradox creates an interesting and dynamic relationship between the inhabitants in the area. There is no other neighbourhoods in Vancouver more unique and under more spotlight than this one. It is the epitome of multiculturalism and we would love to show it to you in its rawest form. We handpicked our favourite food joints that have passed the test of time, and make a positive impact in the neighbourhood beyond its food offerings. You can expect abundance of eating, walking, and a lot of fun. We will try a variety of food styles, from Asian to Western, some small nibbles to a proper meal, and of course, drinks (non-alcoholic). You will see first hand how the old is coexisting with the newest & trendiest. Our goal is to share an authentically local experience; and here in Vancouver, it is sometimes classy, and at times grimy.
Hi! We are Winnie and Anin, young professionals who live and work in Vancouver. We both view food as a universal force that brings people together. One of our favourite things to do is volunteering weekly with an amazing group of people at the cafeteria inside the Carnegie Community Centre in Chinatown. The centre provides social, educational, and cultural activities for the neighbourhood and it is what gave us inspiration for our tour. We want to show you, through the lense of food, how this centre and small businesses are supporting the community.
