What you'll do

My city, Livorno is beautiful but it is little known. If you come with me you will get to know through a walk in the city center some aspects that you could not live without a deep connoisseur and lover of the city. Livorno as a port city has always been very open to other cultures, since the end of the 16th century, thanks to the Livornine laws, foreign communities with different religious and traditions have settled in the area, which influenced the urban context, but also culinary traditions and local slang. We will take a walk among squares, churches, monuments but also in the central market, where if you want, you can taste some traditional food products that I will show you. Together we will discover the rebellious spirit of Livorno and his left-wing political inclination, but also stories about his great characters, such as Amedeo Modigliani, and many comic news, such as the rivalry with Pisa.

I am an art historian with master’s degree, and I studied first in Pisa and then at the University of Bologna, where I lived some years and I had many important experiences of work in the cultural heritage (exhibitions, museums, guided tours). Now that I’m back in Livorno, I want to share my love for the history and culture of my city, together with many beautiful stories, some of them very funny, making you know the places, the characters and anecdotes that make this city unique.

Where you'll be

Walking through the center we will see some of my favorite places like the Church of Our Lady, the Church of the Greeks, the Waldensian Church, peeking at the cemetery of the English people and the Synagogue. Then passing in front of the Church of the Dutch, we will enter into the beautiful central market full of scents and colors and if you want you can buy and taste typical products.

This was wonderful experience in a lovely city. Jacopo is knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate, and he cares deeply about the city of Livorno. He is very helpful, has got lots of tips about stuff to see or where to eat, and I immediately felt at ease with him. I took the tour in English - which worked well - and I learned a lot long the way and got to experience places that I would not have found on my own. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can definitely recommend!

HIGHLY recommended! Every city is interesting with the right guide, and Jacopo is the right guide in Livorno, a historically multicultural city just 15 min by train from Pisa (where I was staying). Jacopo knows practically everything about his hometown and shares his knowledge about historical processes as well as hilarous anecdotes about the city. He is also very friendly and easy-going. Don't miss this!
