What you'll do

Arriving at Jerash - an archaeological trail in the historical site of Jerash - the best preserved Roman site (2.5 hours) Reaching Gaza Camp (5 km away from the archaeological site) - we will be visiting Mohammad's family who reside in the camp. We will learn about their food, culture, traditional dance (dabkeh), daily lives and their challenges in the camp. A tour in the camp to show the camp's creative initiatives - hydroponic, and aquaponic agriculture, tailoring workshops and computer labs. Guests are required to send a copy of their passports ahead of time in order to get a permit to enter the camp. Transportations can be arranged separately and for good price

My name is Anas Amarneh and I am the founder of Through Local Eyes, a start up aiming to promote non-touristic destinations with a unique story to help local communities benefit from tourism in Jordan, and have their voices heard, while connecting touristic landmarks. I am a Tourism Management university student. I have lived and worked in various rural areas in Jordan, where I contributed in developing alternative programs and activities. My goal is to develop the new alternative Jordanian tourism map, which aims to be fair, sustainable and inclusive.. I have great interest in politics, heritage and identity, and have strong faith in the significance of cultural exchange. The programs I offer focus on fair, ethical, and sustainable experiences.

Where you'll be

Jerash archaeological site - a Roman decapolis - a major tourist drawcard. Its imposing ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples and theatres all speak to the time when this was an important imperial centre. Gaza (Jerash) Camp - (5 kms from the archaeological site) it was set up as an "emergency" camp in 1968. for for Palestinian refugees and displaced persons who left the Gaza Strip. It is now the home of 33,000 refugees
