What you'll do

Upon your arrival, we will have a chance to chat a little bit as I give you short tour of my studio space, and describe the details of our work process during your class. After introductions we'll jump right into making a sand mold for the Pendant or Key Chain fob you are going to cast in molten metal. Once the mold is made we'll measure out the metal you need and set up for heating the metal. The metal for your object will be heated with a small torch in a porcelain crucible before its poured into the mold. Participants will help to heat the metal to the correct temperature for the pour, but I will step in for a few minutes if needed to make sure the molten metal is correctly poured into the mold. Within 5 minutes of the pour we can open your sand mold and clean your piece. As needed, a jump ring, or hole will be added to your Pendant or Key Chain Fob. I will make sure each student leaves with a fabulous hand cast jewelry momento in either bronze or silver to remember their trip to San Miguel. No previous experience is required to fully participate and enjoy this class.

Where you'll be

My personal studio is located in the lovely Mexican family neighborhood of San Antonio,- just a casual 15 minute walk from the Historic Center of Colonial San Miguel. My neighborhood offers the sites, smells, and tastes of a small traditional town. You might enjoy buying some of the brilliant fresh fruits and vegetables at a market, or a delicious cup of Mexican Coffee and a fresh pastry from an Artisanal Bakery.

Steeped with intention - If you are looking to make something meaningful, from the heart; working with Jesse is the place to do it. Looking back all I can say is "Wow, what an amazing experience." Originally I met Jesse and was immediately drawn to his art and jewelry making. I was looking for something really special for my girlfriend, and was having trouble finding the exact right thing. I was looking for something that really expressed how I felt and Jesse opened that door. Initially, when I came over, I had a very loose idea of what I wanted, I knew that I wanted to make earrings and I really loved the brass and silver color combination. In looking at Jesse's collected galactic debris I was able to pinpoint the exact shape. We then made a mold of that shape. One of the two molds didn't work at first so we broke for lunch. Getting to know Jesse and the life he's been able to live In San Miguel was part of the adventure. He had some great insights, ideas that I was actually in the process of mulling over and on top of teaching me about jewelry he was a genuine friend. After we made the earrings Jesse gave me a variety of recommendations of places to go in San Miguel de Allende that were the best of all the recommendations I got while I was there. I shared a bunch of his recommendations with my mom who has lived in San Miguel for 4 years and still didn't know about the secret gems Jesse informed me of. All in all, I would say, weather your interest is in jewelry or you are looking for a genuine experience that will liven any vacation doing a workshop with Jesse is the thing to do.

I love my pendant! Jesse's knowledge and expertise are evident from the moment you enter his studio. He was wonderful helping us envision our pieces and execute them with a maximum of autonomy, helping each one of us whenever we needed his guidance, insight or advice. From theoretical to production and creation, the process was seamless and fun. The time flew by and we didn't even see the few hours we spent together go by...we listened to music, got creative and left with an item that I will forever treasure as a totem for my time in San Miguel and with Jesse. Thank you for the coaching, teaching and support along the creative process - see you again soon I hope!
