About your host

Compared to pre-Katrina, New Orleans has significantly improved! Having lived here for 15+ years with more than 10 years in mid-city, I love sharing my enthusiasm for the city by showing newcomers the local watering holes, discussing the many festivals & comparing what we have now to the city's earlier culture and history that is still strong today. What we’ll do

Hike the greenway from the French Quarter to Mid-City - We'll meet in the French Quarter and walk the 2-3 mile greenway to mid-city exploring how it came to be, descriptions of the neighborhoods we walk through, a few stops at local bars including one of our famous po-boy places and ending at a small local brewery. Guests can then walk, bike or take the streetcar to their next destination.

What else you should know

If it will be pouring rain, the tour will be canceled. Random rainstorms can be expected so I will remain in touch that day.

What I’ll provide

Drinks
A bottle of water will be provided to each guest.

What to bring

ID & Cash - Most bars will require 21+ ID to buy drinks (unless accompanied by a parent) and some are cash only
Sunscreen or parasol - NOLA gets hot! Make sure you bring sun protection
If you will be returning by streetcar it is $1.25 per person
Umbrella or poncho (depending on weather conditions)

Where you'll be

On your bar hike, you will pass through the Treme, Bayou St. John and Mid-City neighborhoods. One of the final neighborhoods to be developed, mid-city was literally raised out of the swamp! It includes city park, one of the oldest and largest urban parks in the country. Bayou St. John has one of our oldest po-boy shops, which has existed for more than 100 years and the Treme is known for its jazz clubs, soul food spots and cultural centers.
