What you'll do

** ALL Food & Drinks Inclusive **

Join me on the dark side and explore the bustling neighbourhood—an urban village right in the heart of the city. There's no better place to get a glimpse of the old Shenzhen. A remarkably motley group of 150,000 drifters from all over China live and work there and makes it a perfect melting pot of diverse Chinese cuisine culture.

The delicacies we'll indulge in are hand-picked and are the absolute best choices that withstood our rigorous quality control. Each of them represents a type of Chinese cuisine (Cantonese, Hakka, Hunan, Sichuan, Chaoshan, Shanxi, Xinjiang... ). We'll start off with the most notorious stinky tofu (Chairman Mao's favourite) , followed by some popular nationwide specialties including the Chinese burger or handmade Baozi (filled bun). Continue our culinary adventure sampling different local treasures, finding our way to one surprise stop that offers BBQ oyster or lamb skewers. Bite by bite you will fall in love with Shenzhen the way I did - through the belly!
Other things to note
The tour can be customized if you have any diet restrictions, I can provide a range of alternatives and I'm sure you'll enjoy!

We are catering to vegan/vegetarian diets also. Vegans are welcome!

Quite a bit of walking will be involved!

I am a Solo Traveler/ Ukelele Player/Amateur Cook... and above all, I am a Fooooodieee. I think a lot about food. I experiment a lot with food. I’d ransack the city to hunt down the food I want. I love running into alleyways and back streets to discover the hidden gems for my fastidious taste buds.

After completing my studies in the UK and 3 years drifting through Africa, I came back to Shenzhen from where I grew up, simply because I MISS the food here! There's no place like Shenzhen where all types of Chinese cuisine are represented. It hurts me to see how the splendid and time-honored Chinese food culture is misrepresented and underappreciated outside China – that’s why I feel very much missioned and compassionate to share the real & mouth-watering taste!

Life is too short for bad food; follow me to try the most authentic tastes!

WeiWei is nice host for me. On the date of the tour, she couldn't become able to attend me but she called her friend as a substitute host from 杭州 for me. A substitute host also is really kind and familiar with the place so that I could enjoy my stay in Shenzhen. Thank you for my host, WeiWei and her friend!!!!

Food tours are a really fun way to get a taste of a city in a short period of time and our experience with our worldly local host Ms. Wei Wei did not disappoint. It was more than a foodie tour in that our host was very informed and interesting, we gained a glimpse of daily life in Shenzhen's last 'urban village', and we learned a lot about local gastronomy, or how the local cuisine is linked to the area's history and culture. Furthermore, I should point out that we felt a sense of relief when we saw that Ms. Wei Wei supports many local, family-run businesses as stops on her curated itineraries. In a global world every day becoming more standardized it is good to see people who make an effort to provide authentic, local experiences. As an added and unexpected bonus we found the evening tour to be an exceptional opportunity for photography(and video) as some of our best shots in Shenzhen were taken on the tour, from street portraits to 'foodie' shots of locals preparing and serving our food. To illustrate, we were seemingly just in transit to another eatery when in fact we happened upon a river of Chinese life: there were older couples doing a Chinese version of the tango in a park and a short distance away a group of happy ladies, smiling and laughing, were doing a local form of aerobics. Some of our best photographs came from this after-dark encounter with locals in a public park. In short, Ms. Wei Wei, attractive and UK-educated with real-world work experience in Africa and beyond, is a sophisticated but relaxed host, the type that will provide a visitor with meaningful insight into ascending China. The foodie/gastro part is enjoyable and the 'urban village' should be seen before it is eventually razed to build luxury apartment buildings.

Wei Wei is clearly very passionate about food and loves to share her passion with her guests. The experience was good value for money, she kept introducing us to new foods to the point where we couldn't eat any more. Fantastic.

Outstanding experience! Hands down the best food tour I've ever experienced in Shenzhen. This lovely lady knows the local food scene here like no other and she speaks excellent English. Very comfortable experience. You can choose to go crazy and try very unique foods or she will also gladly customize the adventure to suit your own taste and dietary preferences. There's something here for all levels of foodie. Simply superb! The price is too low. Thank you Wei Wei!!
