What you'll do

We are offering an assisted hands-on experience in Canada's Wood-fired glassblowing studio. First, guests will learn about our wood-fired studio and why being wood-fired is so unique to the worldwide glassblowing community. They will learn what inspired us to spend 6 years researching, designing, and experimenting with furnace designs to be able to build our one-of-a-kind eco-friendly furnace. Then they will learn about our glass, how we cook it, where it comes from, and then the process of blowing the glass into different forms as well as color application and design. Then, customers will get the chance to try out their skills and new knowledge of glassblowing by making some glass flowers and a small paperweight, finished by assisting Curtis while he makes a vase. The customer will get to keep everything that is made during thier visit. This experience is suitable for small groups and families, and will last about 2 hours. The setting of our studio is on a farm, which has a hiking trail behind it that leads to a nature conservatory with 3 beaches. The property also has a shop that is open during tourist season, and a farm house where Curtis lives with his wife and children.

Learn more about Curtis

Curtis

I am Curtis Dionne, and I have been Glassblowing since 2003. I started my journey in Glassblowing by earning my way into an Apprenticeship at the Arte Vargas Glassblowing studio in Maple Ridge, B.C. I did a vigorous and thorough apprenticeship with Maestro Glassblower Daniel Vargas for 5 years. I worked in the hot shop doing both production and free form work, learning about the ins and outs of the equipment and also the company. I also spent some time working in Robert Held's studio in Vancouver. After moving my family to New Brunswick, I opened my own in-home studio called Glass Roots. Glass Roots has a custom made wood-fired glassblowing furnace that I designed out of concern for the environmental impact of the conventional propane furnaces, as well as my own job security. My wife Charlotte is my co-host, she has 3 years experience.
