What you'll do

You will arrive at Green Cart Farm, after a quick meet and greet with the other guests we will begin foraging for perfume ingredients and flowers from the hedgerows, our fields and garden.

Once we have collected enough botanicals we will go to the distillery and extract the essential oils and hydro lats we need to fragrance the soap with an old copper still.

After distillation we will go through the basics of soap making, choose and blend the oils, fragrances, additives and lye into an all natural soap which can be personalised with natural colours, dried flowers, botanicals and spices.

As soap takes 12 weeks to cure we will make a second, high glycerine soap that can be used right away. Once the soaps are set and cut you can package your soaps. You will have 2 batches that can be cut up into 12 guest soaps or 6 family bars. The class ends with a Q&A until you are confident to try soap making at home.

Once the course is complete you will wander with the other guests to one if our Shepherds Huts for a lovely afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches, scones, patisserie, coffee, tea and refreshments.

Making soap at Green Cart farm with Shona was such an authentic and enjoyable experience, and I learned so much. Loads was fitted into the afternoon, and in a fantastic setting. Then as if that wasn't enough, we had Ben's scrumptious afternoon tea. Highly recommend this.

I took Shonna’s soap making class. From the gathering of all the flowers, to the wrapping of the three types of soaps, the tiny bottle of Edwardian perfume, the gluten-fee afternoon tea with fresh chamomile, and the stories she shared about her life and work, I was the lucky recipient of her gigantic generosity. She let me (I ended up being the only one in this class — I don’t think this happens much), enjoy more time than was really allotted and the experience of the farm, and the magical workshop of potions and scents and the beauty of a gorgeous Cornwall afternoon is one I’ll treasure. Thank you Shonna. I learned so much and had such a wonderful time.

Definately try this experience! My husband and I had a lot of fun and learnt so much about making soap! I was stunned by the number of flowers and herbs available- most of which you can grow at home- to use! The smells were amazing. Shonna’s knowledge was outstanding and she had answers to all of my questions- so enthusiastic about her work. She was even able to accommodate my 6month pregnancy and knew which oils to avoid etc. The afternoon tea in the cosy cottage was delightful and even though the rain poured down we had a lovely lovely day. I’ll be coming back to try the gin experience with friends next year
