What you'll do
What is most important, the location, with the backdrop of Venice Beach, our canvas will be part of the Venice Graffiti Walls, previously the Venice Recreation Centre (history will be explained), the city retained an element of the structure before they tore it down in 2010. This wall is not accessible to any classes or such paid activities, it is run by the Chamber of Commerce. With mine and Sel's Venice connects, including the Chamber of Commerce we have obtained permission to use the graffiti walls for a class surface. We start at 10am, I will introduce the history of Venice, why the walls are there, Sel running through the history of Graffiti. We supply all the materials (paint, protective masks and gloves). Sel will start with showing how the various styles are painted. After 30 mins the class will be invited to paint their own 'letters', Sel will facilitate the art of can control, the different paints and caps. After an hour the class join together to make a group piece, the topic / tag to be chosen by the group. The the photo at the end, which can be achieved at no other graffiti class in the world - the finished piece on the famous landmark with the beach in the backdrop

Our resident graffiti artists Marcel 'SEL' Blanco began in the ’80s when he started painting for bands around Los Angeles. In his quest for new inspiration he discovered graffiti art and became part of the early LA scene. He also works on art direction for the charity Beautify Earth where he hosts graffiti classes for kids. . He can be found across numerous art publications, most importantly he has lived in and around Venice for over 20 years

The Graffiti Walls on Venice Beach. The Venice Art Walls is where graffiti art in Venice started and the most iconic beach in Southern California. Located in the heart of the Venice Beach boardwalk in between the skate park and the basketball courts, the art walls are one of Venice Beaches most historic landmark. Street art, murals, and traditional as well as modern graffiti are always on display at the historic Venice Art Walls.
