What you'll do

On this trip, we take you kayaking along the most biologically diverse and historically rich sections of river in the region. We meet at an easy to find location, and we supply the vessels, or you can bring your own.

At the put-in, we give you a brief overview before we gliding through several ancient fish weirs where the Cherokee gathered red-horse in wicker baskets before lunch at the Cowee mound, where we talk about local botanicals and Bartram’s descriptions of the council house that stood there, pre-revolution.

From there, we paddle along a bucolic and tranquil stretch of the Little Tennessee river, where we'll see myriad birds such as the Wood duck, Belted-kingfisher, Osprey, Bald eagle, Tree swallows and more and onward to our take-out on one of our area land trust's conserved river properties. Take out is at approximately 4pm..
