What you'll do

Let’s be part of Hoi An sustainable change! From 8.15 am (8.00 am in the summer) I will pick you up from your hotel (+ 3km from the center) with bicycles and you will join the ride through beautiful countryside. Then we will visit an organic farming community, to have chat with a local family at their house with some tea and visit a their community garden, learn how they grow their veggies with organic way, especially to learn how loofah-natural sponge grows. Take a walk few steps to quiet local river to have fun time to try traditional bamboo basket boat with local boat riders, and harvest some water coconut leaves to bring with us for doing origami a package for soap from water coconut leaves and banana leaves. Hit the road jack with bikes and go to workshop place. Arriving the workshop, we will start to learn to make package in traditional way and start to make soap!!! Highlight of the trip will be learn the concept of how oil has been collected and turn into eco kitchen soap! We will have organic herbal tea to serve you during the workshop. You will bring the soap in coconut leaves back home with the recipe, and lot of fun memories.

Thi Ha My

I am a local urbanist in love with Hoi An. I've lived in Hoi An for 7 years now, working in sustainable tourism in Hoi An as researcher and tourguide. I hold a BSc of Environmental Engineering and completed MSc in Sustainable Urban Development and social eco-tourism (Stuttgart Uni) in Germany. My co-host is SAPO-Natural Handmade Soap Hoi An. Since 2014, I became an independent consultant of eco upcycling kitchen soap project by SAPO which aims to share the technique to recycling used oil from restaurants and hotels in Hoi An. I have hosted many workshops of eco-kitchen soap for locals people and local businesses. Join me this journey to learn about ideas of sustainable eco-social changes in Hoi An and meet the local sustainable communities that I love!

Where you'll be

We will cycle through the countryside outside the centre of Hoi An, where you could feel the real local life, we also visit a beautiful community organic farm, where local family grow their vegetables by using compost from their backyard, make their natural insect repellent, the quiet river we will experience bamboo basket boat riding with watercoconut both riverbanks , the workshop house is a lovely tiny handmade soap factory with nice garden.
