What you'll do
The experience is conceived as an experiential journey through Moroccan art and craftsmanship, to explore its multiple expressions and its stunning value. We will deep into the medina and the souks (traditional markets), to discover ancient techniques and meet local artisans whose wisdom span generations, reminding us of the simple but profound elder teachings of the unschooled. A unique experience that gives us the opportunity to explore the medina of Marrakech and its colorful markets “from the inside” and in close connection with the local population. We will begin at 10h00 am with a mint tea in a traditional riad in Dar El Basha, beautiful area of the medina rich in traditions and history. During the meeting, the guide will introduce the details of the experience. We will then start our exploration of the different souks, visiting not only trade spaces like shops and boutiques but also workshops and production sites, diving into centuries-old traditions. The experience will end in Dar El Basha with a final visit to the foundouks (travellers' inns), ancient trading places offering accommodation for merchants and their animals, like dromedaries. Nowadays, foundouks are lively production and trade places with colored boutiques and workshops , where to admire the charm of the Moroccan architecture… definitely the best way to complete our experience of the medina.0
I believe in a world where every man, woman and child has the same rights to live, explore, discover and enjoy life in peace and freedom. I think that is up to anyone of us to leave things better than we found them, for the next generations to come. As project manager in development cooperation projects, i worked on several initiatives aimed at promoting the respect of human and labour rights in Morocco, following the principles of solidarity, social justice, human dignity and peace. I worked together with the most vulnerable workers to favor their socio-economic inclusion and prevent the worst forms of exclusion, violence an discrimination. I hope that this experience will allow people to get a better understanding of the medina of Marrakech and its socio-economic dynamics, promoting a more responsible and sustainable tourism in Morocco.

Where you'll be
The souks of the medina of Marrakech are unique in the world for their organization, size and features. They are traditionally located in narrow streets and covered by suspended trellises in order to filter the light and curb the heat. The experience includes a visit to the main souks of the old city (both shops and workshops), from the dyers and the leather’s souks to the souks of iron and spices, basketry and wood, fabrics, wood and carpets.
