What you'll do
We start it off towards a local outdoor shopping area in the heart of Rio’s downtown. It’s a local scene you just have to see for yourself! We'll mix shops and studios that are all independently owned and operated, and the artists might even be there to chat directly with you! Once downtown, we'll visit the studio of a one-woman social project. With no official backing from organisations, a local woman has decided to only employ deaf women. We'll learn about her studio and why she has chosen to pursue this cause on her own. Next, we head to Santa Teresa to visit the shop of an amazing local craftsman who has been working in this area for over 30 years. He turns other people’s garbage into art. We also tour a bit of the community and stop into a local shop that supports Brazilian indigenous people and culture. Then, onwards to the first local souvenir shop in Santa Teresa, which strictly promotes Brazilian art and products. Finally, another famous local artist, who does oil paintings on canvas that are influenced by life in the favelas. We'll visit his studio, where you can see his community-inspired masterpieces. To closure the afternoon, we'll have a drink at a nice local spot.
Luiz & Team
Promoting local businesses and communities is something I take really seriously and I even got it tattooed ;). Besides that, the food & history scene has always been along my main interests when traveling. I was born and raised in Rio & been guiding since 2003. I have lived abroad and visited over 20 different countries around the world. I know how important it is to feel welcomed when experiencing a new destination as if you were a friend of mine. The food we try can tell us a lot about the culture and history of each destination. Besides tour guide, I'm a former professional athlete, samba lover, surfing addicted and world traveller. Showing off Rio is my passion and hobby!

We'll visit a studio downtown area where deaf women work, then we stop by a street art gallery where garbage is turned into art. Next we promote and support a local indigenous shop and the first souvenir shop in Santa Teresa neighborhood. Our last shopping stop is at a studio to learn and see community-inspired masterpieces. Last but not least, we stop at a local bar for a top up drink.
