What you'll do

We’ll meet you at Omichou Market, a downtown market buzzing with local delicacies and attire. From here, we’ll walk for couple of minutes to our changing room area.

You will be able to browse through our selection of kimono and yukata. When you find your favourite design, Seina will begin the process of dressing you up! She will graciously explain everything that she is doing and the meaning behind each bend and fold of the garment. After putting on the kimono, Seina will then tend to your hair and set it in a traditional Japanese way. By the end of it, you’ll look and feel like a million bucks!

As part of the outfit, we’ll provide you with traditional socks called tabi. These are yours to keep.Once your outfit is ready, we’ll of course take many, many photos for you. We’re more than happy to use your camera or mobile phone, so that you’ll have your photos immediately.

Jonny will then take you on an exciting tour of Kanazawa’s richest historical areas, as well as areas of natural beauty. All places great to take photos in! As you walk through these areas, and learn of their old history, wearing your traditional attire you’ll almost feel like you’re walking through 17th Century Kanazawa!

Choosing the kimono and preparation will take 1 hour. The guided tour will then last for 1.5 hours. You will be free to use the kimono until 5pm.
Other things to note
In the summer months (June-September), we will use yukata instead of Kimonos.
Yukata's are essentially a lighter version of the kimono. It is too hot during summer to wear a kimono.
Please return kimonos by 6pm.
Men will not receive hair set up.

Hi there! Seina and Jonny here. We will be your two hosts today.
We are a Japanese and Irish couple living in Kanazawa. We love what we do, and we love to share what we do with enthusiastic guests.

As Seina works in a luxury ryokan (that’s a traditional Japanese hotel), she has to wear & prepare immaculate kimonos both for herself and for the ryokan’s guests. It's a skill she has mastered and one that she loves to teach others.

Jonny, a history major, has called Kanazawa home for 4 years. He fell in love with Kanazawa’s rich culture & history almost instantly (and with Seina just as fast!). He takes guests on a cultural & historical tour of Kanazawa on his own Airbnb experience, an experience with a 5 star rating.

We’re both highly experienced and qualified for the experience that we’re offering. Let’s have a great adventure together!
