What you'll do

Picture a river, surrounded by old manufacturing buildings and parklands. You can almost hear the sounds of the factories well at work, mixed in with the splashing of the river as you walk along the pathway. The colourful residential area surprisingly improves the mood with the colour palette on display, even on a cloudy day. You come across a giant chandelier, where around the corner hides a number of old wooden houses from the 1800s and facades covered in street art. Where in Oslo are you? You’re in the district of Grünerløkka, Oslo’s trendy and bohemian inner-city neighbourhood.

During your journey through Grünerløkka, where there is plenty of hipster vibes and history to go around (aka hipstoric), we’ll dig into one of the treasures that are Oslo. We'll see Damstredet, where you’ll want to take a photo of the lovely hillside houses. We'll also check in with Norway's dynamic trio: Ibsen, Bjørnson and… at the Our Savior’s Cemetery.

The area is also home to one of Norway’s most famous artists, none other than Edvard Munch (third person in the trio above of course). We end our hipstoric walk at Mathallen in the recently built, sustainable area of Vulkan.
Other things to note
Look for our guide dressed in blue or white with the logo OURWAY. The Logo can also be held as a sign.

This tour ends at Vulkan in the Grünnerløkka district so guests may continue to enjoy the area or visit the food hall Mathallen.

I'm the founder of OURWAY Tours, specialising guided tours within Scandinavia. I started in Stockholm, 2011, as a qualified guide with the question: What do people enjoy when they travel? The answer we found, is to: "Meet the people, try the food, live the stories" and so that's what we do. In 2016 we felt enough guests had asked us if we
did tours anywhere else to make the decision to expand to Oslo & Copenhagen.

Our team of handpicked locals, trained to take tours, want nothing more than to share their love for the city with you.

In short, we give you "people, places, and culture—the local way".

Where you'll be

This is a walk of Grünerløkka including colourful residential areas, Akerselva River, famous Norwegians and a Food Hall. You can feel the hipstoric vibes in the air! We will make multiple stops and mix general stops with visits to sites that are often difficult to find or overlooked by visitors. The route of the tour might vary depending on who it's with and what the interest of the guests are.

We actually had a host named Romy. She was not from Oslo originally but she knew so much history about the buildings and people who lived in this area. It was a miserably rainy day outside but we made the best of it and Romy was so positive throughout the tour. We stopped into Tim Windleboe's coffee shop, who we came to understand was a world renowned coffee expert. Romy doesn't drink coffee so it was a nice personal gesture for us to experience. We learned so much about Grunerlokka and had a lot of fun, despite the rain! I'd highly recommend!

Our guide Monika was very knowledgeable and fun. We were in a small group of 6, and we were all enjoying the tour. We went to some lovely and interesting parts of the city

Our tour guide Monika was beyond friendly! Very knowledgeable in general, easy to talk to and also put in a lot of effort to keep the group together and to include each group member in conversations and explanations. The tour itself was lovely as well, we managed to see places we otherwise would never have stumbled upon and also the explanations of each stop were of good length and quality. The pace was easy-going, nobody had to speedwalk; it was more like a stroll, which was nice.

This was an interesting tour. However, they should have provided a different guide since the guide's laryngitis was so bad, it was impossible to hear her most of the time. Perhaps that was not possible on this particular day. This is an interesting and pretty part of town, however, and there were some fellow travelers who were fun to be with.

I really enjoyed the tour with Monica. She was really prepared and she explained me everything I asked. We visited so many places in 2 hours that by your own takes much more time. She was friendly and very professional. I would absolutely recommend this tour.
