What you'll do

I will pick you up in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco early in the morning. We will take a taxi to the beginning of the walk, which will take about 40 minutes. Then we set off on our four or five hour hike, which takes us along the lower side of a famous ruin before descending a quiet Inca trail, seldom visited by tourists, into a lush valley where we behold a beautiful, cascading waterfall. After that we continue along the valley floor, adjacent to a stream, with cliffs and mountains towering above us. Eventually the trail takes us past small corn plantations tucked into the forest, before coming out in a village. From there we take private transport back to Cusco. (Note that the additional cost of this trek owes itself to the private transport to and from the hike; a cheaper option that takes public transport on the way back to Cusco is this: https://www.airbnb.com.pe/experiences/339902 )

Christopher

Hi, I am an amicable Australian who has spent many years doing research on Andean culture and history. I love the Andean ranges and I adore hiking. I know the rural areas around Cusco and the Quechua people very well. I have now taken to guiding people on my favourite walks. Apart from English, I speak Spanish as well as rusty German. Fortunata is my co-host and sometimes guides this trek. (See https://www.airbnb.com.pe/experiences/339902 ) She hails from the Andes, speaks Spanish, Quechua and basic English, and has a wealth of knowledge about local ways.

More tips

You need to be averagely fit for this walk. It is all downhill, but still it is quite tiring. (It is a breeze for seasoned hikers.) Not recommended for those with bad knees or weak ankles.
