About your host

I am one of sensei's many students and wish to bring the beautiful art of Japanese Tea Ceremony and the healing gift of matcha to the world. Manhattan is so busy and many people just want a quiet moment where they can relax in a beautiful space. This is absolutely the best place to do that with an experience that, for many, is not available outside of Japan.

What we’ll do

Be transported to a peaceful ambience the minute you enter and espy the tatami mat. Enjoy happy greetings from the hosts, beautiful incense, and an array of gorgeous ceramics. Guests will be prompted to remove their shoes and wash their hands before seating themselves comfortably on the tatami mat. From there, Sensei Souheki Mori will delight and teach you with the gracefully deliberate…

What else you should know

Be sure to wear clean socks and comfortable clothing. Short skirts may be difficult to maneuver as you will be seated on the tatami (straw mat) of the traditional tea ceremony. Prices include a bowl of matcha in an antique or artisanal tea bowl, wagashi (sweets), and a Q&A session about the art.

What I’ll provide

Dessert
Wagashi or Higashi will be provided upon admittance into the tea ceremony. This can consist of sweet bean paste bites or dry rice crackers. Several sweets are available and most food allergies can be accommodated (gluten free, vegan, soy free, etc.).
Equipment
Chasen (Tea bowl) Wagashi (Japanese sweets) Ceremonial Matcha (Japanese green tea powder)
