About your host

I have been living in Bishkek for nearly 5 years and am the co-founder of the tour agency Andash Travels, which operates since 2018 and offers historical, cultural and adventure tours. I speak the local language and am passionate about nearly everything when it comes to Kyrgyzstan. When I'm not working as a guide, I shoot documentaries dealing mostly with cultural and social issues in Kyrgyzstan.

What we’ll do

Have you ever noticed that there is nearly no graffiti in Bishkek? Street art is a difficult topic in Kyrgyzstan. Social control and pressure make it hard for artists to express themselves freely. However, there is one place where they can: an old abandoned water canal in the south of the city. As I find it very important to support alternative art and street culture, I would love to take a walk…

What else you should know

Again, be aware that there is a little bit of climbing involved when entering and exiting the canal. Also, in the very beginning, there is some rubbish we have to walk over to get to the actual canal.

What to bring

Good shoes
Sun protection

Where you'll be

We will enter the open canal at the very end of it near Victory Park. Then we will walk inside the concrete canal for about 2km until we reach the main road, where we will climb out again. The entry and exit points are a bit tricky and involve some climbing. But I will bring a rope to help us manage it.
