What you'll do

This workshop of 2 hours is intended to the artcraft lovers, to those who like writing, drawing and are looking for a jewel case for their creations, to those who wish to make a distinctive gift produced by themselves. During this beginner class, you will learn to craft a small hardcover book binded (A6) you will take with you. The Coptic binding is a contemporary binding structure, it’s specificity is to have a visible stitching on the back. The threads of this stitching loop back on the flat surface of the cover ; thus they tie the covers to the text booklets. The fact that there is no hard cover back allows a wide opening ; writing, drawing and reading is then easier. During the first part you will coat the flats of the hardcover on both sides, with a paper you can choose. This step requests a special focus on the gluing process and shaping of the corners. The stitching will be done during the second part of the workshop. It required a special focus on the thread route.

Aurore

I am a craftswoman in bookbinding. After being graduated in this field, I set up my own workshop : Les Petits Cahiers de Rita (Rita’s little notebooks), where I work on ancient books restoration and notebook creation meant for writing, drawing, … Each work is for me an Opportunity to preserve a cultural heritage to which is Added a sentimental value, and also to exercise my creativity when I have to work on book with a modern structure. I show so much consideration to my art because of all these distinctive features. I will be glad to share with you some of my experience by proposing an introduction workshop to the Coptic bookbinding, at the end of which you can get with the notebook you have made.
