What you'll do

We begin with a brief discussion on how to silence the inner critic, and then either a discussion on values, or jump right into how to mix the right color, every time. I will explain what elements draw the eye to a painting or drawing from across the room, and how to incorporate those elements into your work. For painting, I will provide a choice of several images pre-drawn on canvases and then making a very quick demonstration, and then invite you to utilize similar gestures to begin roughing the values in your image. I will be at your side to guide you in seeing and rendering the values to begin building the image on either your canvas or paper. I'll teach you many tips and shortcuts I have developed over the many thousands of hours I have invested so that your work advances quickly. You will leave happy, having gained art skills that will serve you for the rest of your life, and you will also have something lovely to hang on your wall or give as a gift.

Liz

I've been studying painting and classical realism for years and came to Paris to hone my craft. This environment is endlessly inspiring. From the form of a rose to the light glistening off the surface of the Seine on a sunny day, there is never enough time to paint all the beauty here. I teach painting and drawing classes based on sound classical principles and my revolutionary method of "shadow shapes" which help students more quickly achieve success in expressing their ideas. We discuss the Inner Game of Art and how the mind can be a saboteur, and how to silence the inner critic so we can do our best work. You will make a lovely painting in an afternoon and take home not just a souvenir (the french word for "memory") but also have gained a new skill which you can use every time you pick up a paint brush or pencil.
