Tim

I have been a National Park Ranger for three years, working in countryside management in the South Downs National Park. I have worked in Countryside Management in and around the South Downs in East Sussex for 17 years. Rangers are part of all National Park Services in the UK and globally. The Rangers are a key component of the South Downs National Park Authority’s work providing a local contact, knowledge and a core service of mediating between the landscape and people. I have lots of experience in conserving the very precious, wildlife rich chalk grassland habitat that is the most valuable feature of our Downland landscape. I am able to explain its wildlife and why it is so important to protect it. . I can explain the story of this landscape, how humans have shaped it and how we strive to protect it.

Where you'll be

The first port of call will be Seaford Head, where you will hear about the role of a Ranger in the South Downs National Park. You will then travel to Seven Sisters Country Park and Friston Forest to see some of the work the Rangers and our volunteers do to look after these sites. From there you will travel to an important conservation site near Lullington where you will see countryside management in action. Plus a stop at Long Man Brewery!
