What you'll do
Cost: £20 per adult; £10 per child (Airn BnB doesn't allow me to differentiate between adults & children but these are the prices). Walks take place to suit the needs of the group. One popular option is starting from Totnes town centre. From Totnes, walks take in some of the more unknown corners of the town, with a bit of history, and then green lanes and the River Dart, and then the Dartington Estate and its Grade 1 gardens. In the past we've seen kingfishers, seals in the river, little egrets, dippers, stoats, badgers, foxes, deer and much more. This walk can take in a pub visit if requested. This walk is best done in the early evening - we can also explore The Dart river by canoe. Dogs are welcome but they will need to be on a lead at certain points on the walk. Walks along the South Devon coast are within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offer spectacular views, beach trips, rock-pooling and wild flowers. In the past we've seen seals in the sea, falcons, adders and lizards. Walks are designed to suit your needs. The walk usually involves a fire on the beach and hot drinks. Dogs are welcome although at certain times of the year and on certain beaches, they do not allow dogs.
I grew up in Devon, just outside Totnes. I am an experienced group leader with over 25 years' experience leading walks. I have a degree in History and a Masters degree in Archaeology, as well as Level 3 Forest School qualification. My walks are designed to engage people with the amazing natural environment of the River Dart and the South Devon coastline. Walks are all unique as you never know what we'll experience. My approach is to encourage participants to observe, wonder, learn and chat. I also make sure there's some fire lighting , some campfire cooking and hot drinks. Many locations are at secluded spots only known by the locals but I am flexible and more accessible locations can also be used. You will get to know some hidden corners of Devon and each walk is tailored to the needs of the group. Canoeing on the Dart is also an option.
Where you'll be
The main location for walks in the medieval town of Totnes, which has the highest proportion of Listed Buildings per head of population in the UK. We follow the River Dart and visit the Dartington Estate. Coastal walks start at small car parks and we follow green lanes and the South West Coast Path within the South Devon AONB. We visit beaches, coves and less well-known corners of the county. Canoe trips for small groups can also be arranged.
